Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Chef to join our team. The successful applicant will plan menus, prepare and cook high-quality dishes, manage kitchen operations, and ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. This role also involves mentoring junior staff and maintaining smooth workflow in the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborating with management to plan menus, estimate food and labour requirements, and manage ordering of kitchen ingredients and supplies, with a focus on Nepalese and Indian cuisine.
  2. Monitoring the quality, consistency, and presentation of dishes throughout all stages of preparation and service, ensuring authentic Nepalese and Indian culinary standards are maintained.
  3. Liaising with managers, dietitians/nutrition specialists, and kitchen/wait staff to discuss food preparation requirements and resolve operational issues.
  4. Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising kitchen staff on proper food preparation procedures, particularly in the preparation of Nepalese and Indian dishes.
  5. Preparing and cooking a variety of Nepalese and Indian dishes according to the restaurant’s menu standards, recipes, and quality requirements.
  6. Ensuring strict compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations within the kitchen.
  7. Assisting with the selection, training, and development of junior kitchen staff as required, including providing guidance on Nepalese and Indian cooking techniques and preparation methods.
  8. Handling food preservation processes such as freezing and storing ingredients to maintain freshness and quality.

Skills and Experience Required:

  1. Minimum 1 year experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen.
  2. Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and WHS standards.
  3. Ability to manage time efficiently and work under pressure.
  4. Certificate III or Diploma in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent) highly desirable.
  5. Excellent communication and team management skills.
