Downtown Deniliquin is seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our team in Deniliquin, NSW.

Our restaurant offers a range of Italian-inspired cuisine, including pizzas, pasta and a variety of traditional and contemporary Italian dishes.

We are looking for a motivated hospitality professional who takes pride in delivering consistently high-quality food and maintaining excellent kitchen standards. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Chef and other kitchen staff to support the day-to-day operation of the kitchen and provide an enjoyable dining experience for our customers.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a full-time Chef to assist with the preparation, cooking and presentation of high-quality meals, with a particular focus on Italian cuisine, including pizzas, pasta and other Italian dishes.

You will play an important role in ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and that food quality, presentation, hygiene and safety standards are consistently maintained.

As a key member of the kitchen team, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing, cooking and presenting dishes in accordance with established recipes, menus and quality standards.
  • Preparing and cooking a variety of Italian dishes, including pizzas, pasta and other menu items, using appropriate cooking techniques and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Preparing pizza dough, sauces and toppings and cooking pizzas in accordance with the restaurant’s recipes, portioning and quality standards.
  • Planning menus and assisting with the development of new dishes in consultation with the Head Chef and management.
  • Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  • Estimating food requirements and assisting with the ordering of food, ingredients and other kitchen supplies.
  • Checking the quality and freshness of ingredients and ensuring appropriate storage and stock rotation.
  • Managing stock levels and assisting with ordering, inventory control and minimising food wastage.
  • Supervising and providing guidance to cooks and other kitchen staff where required.
  • Assisting with the training of kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking techniques, presentation and food safety procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment.
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene, sanitation and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Assisting with kitchen rostering, food cost control and operational planning where required.
  • Monitoring kitchen equipment and work areas and reporting maintenance or operational issues to management.

The Ideal Candidate Must Have

  • A relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef or in a similar professional kitchen role.
  • Strong food preparation, cooking and presentation skills.
  • Experience preparing Italian cuisine, including pizzas, pasta and other Italian dishes, is highly desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen safety requirements.
  • Experience with stock control, ordering and minimising food wastage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining consistent food quality.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to remain calm and organised during busy service periods.
  • Flexibility to work across a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
  • A genuine passion for food, Italian cuisine and hospitality.

Position: Full-Time Chef

Salary: $75,000–$85,000 per annum
