About the Role
Cafe Dami is seeking an experienced and passionate Chef/Cook to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled culinary professional to contribute to a busy, customer-focused cafe environment, delivering high-quality food consistently and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and present menu items to a consistently high standard
- Plan and cost menus, taking into account seasonal produce availability and customer preferences
- Monitor stock levels, order supplies, and manage food costs within budget
- Maintain strict food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards at all times
- Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff, including rostering and delegating tasks
- Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and used safely
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff and apprentices
- Liaise with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction
- Develop new menu items and specials in line with the cafe's style and customer demand
Skills & Experience Required
- Relevant trade qualification in commercial cookery (Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery) or equivalent experience
- Proven experience working as a Chef/Cook in a cafe or similar hospitality setting
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak periods
- Strong communication and team leadership skills
- Current Food Safety Supervisor certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Flexibility to work across a full-time roster, including weekends where required
