HR Advisor – 6-Month Contract Centacare | Brisbane | Full-time | Hybrid working

Practical HR. Real people matters. Work that makes a difference.

Centacare is looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join our People & Culture team for a six-month contract.

This is a hands-on generalist position for someone who enjoys supporting managers, working through day-to-day people matters and helping ensure HR processes are handled fairly, consistently and professionally.

Reporting to the General Manager – People & Culture, you’ll work as part of a collaborative team and provide practical advice across employee relations, performance, workplace concerns, organisational change and broader HR activities.

You’ll have support around you, but you’ll also be trusted to take ownership of matters, prepare documentation, coordinate next steps and follow actions through to completion.

This role could suit an experienced HR Advisor, People & Culture Advisor or HR generalist who is confident managing operational HR matters and is ready to continue building their advisory capability.

About Centacare

Centacare is a purpose-led, not-for-profit organisation supporting individuals, children and families across Queensland.
Our services are available to the whole community, regardless of religion, background, circumstances, age, gender or ability.
We work alongside people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage, helping them strengthen relationships, navigate challenges and achieve meaningful goals.
Behind those services is a large and diverse workforce — and a People & Culture team committed to giving managers and employees practical, responsive and thoughtful support.

The opportunity

As HR Advisor, you’ll support managers and leaders across a broad range of people matters.
One day, you may be helping a manager prepare for a performance conversation. The next, you could be drafting correspondence, responding to an employee concern, reviewing an Award question or supporting a workplace process.
The role offers plenty of variety and a strong opportunity to deepen your experience across employee relations, industrial relations and generalist HR.
You’ll work closely with more senior members of the People & Culture team on complex or higher-risk matters, while independently managing day-to-day advisory work within your level of experience.
This is a role for someone who enjoys being useful, responsive and close to the work.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing practical HR advice and support to managers and employees
  • Assisting with employee relations matters, including conduct, grievances and workplace concerns
  • Supporting managers through performance and probation processes
  • Preparing letters, meeting notes, outcome correspondence and other HR documentation
  • Helping coordinate workplace investigations and disciplinary processes
  • Interpreting policies, employment conditions, modern Awards and enterprise agreements
  • Responding to employee and manager enquiries in a timely and professional way
  • Supporting organisational change and consultation activities
  • Assisting with workforce planning and general HR administration
  • Maintaining accurate case notes, records and HR documentation
  • Supporting onboarding, offboarding and employment lifecycle activities where required
  • Contributing to learning, leadership and organisational development initiatives
  • Identifying recurring issues and opportunities to improve HR processes
  • Working collaboratively across the broader People & Culture team

About you

You’re a practical HR professional who enjoys helping people work through real workplace issues.
You communicate clearly, stay calm when matters are sensitive and know when to resolve something yourself and when to seek more senior support.
You’re comfortable with both the people side and the administrative detail of HR — because you understand that good advice only works when the process and documentation are also handled properly.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Experience as an HR Advisor, People & Culture Advisor, HR Coordinator or generalist with meaningful advisory exposure
  • Practical experience supporting employee relations and performance matters
  • An understanding of modern Awards, enterprise agreements, employment legislation and HR policies
  • Experience preparing clear and professional HR documentation
  • Confidence communicating with managers and employees at different levels
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail
  • Sound judgement and respect for confidentiality
  • The ability to manage several matters at once and follow actions through
  • A collaborative, approachable and service-focused working style
  • A willingness to ask questions and continue developing your HR capability
  • Experience supporting organisational change, investigations or disciplinary processes would be highly regarded
  • Exposure to learning, leadership development or organisational development initiatives would also be valuable
  • A relevant qualification in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Business or a related discipline would be beneficial

You don’t need to have managed every type of HR matter independently.

What matters is that you bring solid foundations, good judgement, a willingness to learn and the confidence to provide practical support.

Why join Centacare?

This six-month opportunity offers the chance to broaden your HR experience within a large, diverse and purpose-led organisation.
You’ll join a supportive People & Culture team, work across a variety of employee and workplace matters and continue developing your advisory capability.
You’ll also enjoy:

  • Salary packaging benefits — package up to $18,550 of your annual salary tax-free, helping increase your take-home pay
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • Some flexibility around start and finish times
  • Opportunities to build your HR, employee relations and industrial relations experience
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program, including confidential support for you and eligible family members
  • The opportunity to contribute to work that supports individuals, families and communities across Queensland
