Company
An exciting opportunity is available to join a well-established transport services business that plays an important role in keeping Melbourne moving. With a substantial fleet, multiple operating locations and the backing of a larger organisation, this business offers the resources, stability and support to help its people succeed.
The organisation is focused on delivering dependable service, maintaining high operational standards and continually improving the way it works. For an experienced workshop leader, this is an opportunity to step into a key management position where your ideas, leadership and technical expertise will have a direct impact on business performance.
Position
Due to continued operational development, a new leadership role has been created for a Workshop Operations Manager to oversee heavy vehicle maintenance across two Melbourne sites.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity that goes beyond managing the daily workload. You will have the scope to shape workshop processes, strengthen team performance and introduce improvements that deliver better outcomes across both locations.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will take ownership of workshop efficiency, team development, maintenance quality and overall operational performance.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading people and performance: Build a capable, motivated team and establish clear expectations around productivity, accountability and service delivery.
- Driving workshop efficiency: Coordinate labour, equipment, maintenance schedules and workflow to keep operations running smoothly and minimise vehicle downtime.
- Providing technical leadership: Support your team with complex diagnostics, fault resolution and practical guidance across heavy vehicle systems.
- Improving operations: Identify opportunities to streamline processes, introduce more effective ways of working and support the successful transition of workshop operations where required.
- Maintaining safety and compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities meet relevant safety, regulatory and roadworthiness requirements.
- Managing commercial outcomes: Oversee budgets, resources and assets, balancing cost control with quality workmanship and reliable service.
- Building a positive culture: Encourage collaboration, continuous improvement and a shared commitment to safe, high-quality work.
With responsibility across two sites, you will have the opportunity to bring consistency to workshop operations, develop your leadership capability and make a meaningful contribution to the performance of a substantial vehicle fleet.
Candidate
We are looking for a technically strong and commercially minded leader who understands what it takes to run an effective heavy vehicle workshop.
You may already be managing a workshop, leading a maintenance team or working in a senior technical role and looking for the opportunity to step into a broader operational position.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Experience leading, coaching or supervising a team in a workshop or fleet maintenance environment.
- The ability to plan workloads, manage resources and maintain productivity in a fast-paced operation.
- A practical approach to problem-solving, decision-making and continuous improvement.
- A strong understanding of workplace health and safety, compliance and maintenance standards.
- The confidence to manage competing priorities and lead teams through operational change.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across different business functions.
Most importantly, you will be someone who leads from the front, takes ownership of outcomes and knows how to get the best out of a team. You will be comfortable getting involved in technical matters when needed while maintaining a clear focus on the bigger operational picture.
