WHS & ER Specialist | 12 months FTC | Sydney/hybrid | up to 133k + 15% Super

We're partnering with a respected Federal Government organisation seeking an Employee Relations & WHS Specialist to lead key workplace health, safety and wellbeing initiatives while supporting employee relations and industrial relations activities across the business.

This role has a strong focus on WHS and wellbeing, with responsibility for embedding frameworks, initiatives and governance processes that create a safe, supportive and psychologically healthy workplace. The successful candidate will also bring experience across employee relations and industrial relations, including exposure to Enterprise Agreements and workplace relations frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Work Health & Safety

  • Finalise and implement WHS policies and procedures in line with audit recommendations and legislative requirements.
  • Establish and embed WHS governance frameworks, reporting structures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead psychosocial risk management activities and evaluate existing action plans.
  • Design and implement trauma-informed wellbeing initiatives, including clinical supervision frameworks and trauma care programs.
  • Develop practical support mechanisms for employees working in challenging and sensitive environments.
  • Drive a proactive approach to workplace wellbeing and psychological safety.

Injury Management & Rehabilitation

  • Manage rehabilitation and return-to-work programs.
  • Develop frameworks for managing non-compensable injury and wellbeing matters.
  • Establish early intervention and early return-to-work programs.
  • Coordinate Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) where required.
  • Ensure best-practice support is provided to employees throughout the injury management process.

Employee Relations & Industrial Relations

  • Provide employee relations advice and support across workplace matters.
  • Partner with leaders to navigate performance, conduct and workplace concerns.
  • Contribute to industrial relations initiatives and projects.
  • Interpret and apply Enterprise Agreements and workplace policies.
  • Support enterprise bargaining activities and implementation of industrial instruments.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the organisation

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in Work Health & Safety, ideally within the Australian Public Service (APS) or a similarly complex environment.
  • Strong knowledge of psychosocial hazards, mental health and wellbeing frameworks.
  • Proven experience implementing WHS systems, policies, governance structures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in rehabilitation, injury management and return-to-work programs.
  • Exposure to employee relations and industrial relations matters, including Enterprise Agreements, enterprise bargaining and workplace relations frameworks.
  • Ability to provide practical, balanced advice on workplace issues.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and consultation skills.
  • Experience working within trauma-informed or people-centred environments will be highly regarded.
  • A collaborative approach and genuine commitment to employee wellbeing.

    $121,000 - $133,000 plus 15.4% superannuation.
