As a Technical Lead, you'll play a key role in shaping and leading our Data Engineering capability, helping deliver modern, scalable and secure data solutions that support better outcomes for our members and the business.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll combine solution design, engineering expertise and people leadership to influence our technology direction and champion engineering excellence. Working closely with architects, engineers, analysts, delivery teams and business stakeholders, you'll help define standards, mentor team members and drive the delivery of high-quality data platforms and integration solutions.
You'll lead the design and development of enterprise data solutions while promoting best practice across engineering, architecture and governance. You'll also contribute to platform strategy and roadmaps, identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and help foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, influencing technical direction and remaining hands-on with technology, we'd love to hear from you.
This role is a permanent opportunity and is based in Brisbane.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and lead the delivery of scalable, secure and reliable data platforms, pipelines and integration solutions.
- Lead the development of automated data integration, transformation and processing capabilities.
- Provide technical leadership across data engineering initiatives, including solution design, code reviews and technical governance.
- Establish and promote engineering standards, best practices and modern delivery approaches across the team.
- Mentor and coach engineers while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with architects, analysts, engineers, vendors and business stakeholders to design and deliver effective solutions.
- Contribute to platform strategy and roadmaps by identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and new platform capabilities.
- Ensure solutions align with security, risk, governance and regulatory requirements.
- Support Agile delivery practices and provide technical expertise across complex change initiatives.
- Evaluate solution options, manage technical risks and drive high-quality technical outcomes.
Qualifications
It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:
- You have extensive experience in data engineering, solution design or technical leadership roles within complex enterprise environments.
- Your expertise includes SQL, Python, ETL/ELT development, data modelling and API integration.
- You'll have experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices and modern cloud data platforms such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks or Microsoft Fabric.
- You're experienced in mentoring technical teams and promoting engineering standards and best practice.
- You have strong knowledge of solution architecture principles, design governance and enterprise technology environments.
- Your ability to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders enables you to influence outcomes and solve complex business challenges.
- You'll have experience working within Agile delivery frameworks such as SAFe or Scrum.
- You're comfortable balancing hands-on technical delivery with strategic planning and technical leadership responsibilities.
