About the Opportunity

Bay Technologies is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our Brisbane-based technology team.

The successful candidate will contribute to the continued development, enhancement, integration and support of Bay's enterprise software platforms.

This is a technically demanding role involving the full software development lifecycle. You will work across requirements analysis, technical design, software development, application integration, database development, testing, deployment, troubleshooting and ongoing product enhancement.

The role is particularly suited to an experienced software professional who can work effectively with established enterprise applications while also contributing to the design and implementation of new functionality.

You will work closely with software developers, product personnel, technical staff, business stakeholders and government-facing teams to deliver reliable, secure and maintainable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering & Application Development

• Analyse functional and technical requirements and translate them into practical software solutions.
• Design, develop, modify and maintain enterprise software applications.
• Develop new application functionality and enhance existing product capabilities.
• Work with established application codebases and undertake complex modifications and enhancements.
• Develop reusable, maintainable and scalable software components.
• Apply appropriate software engineering principles, design patterns and development standards.
• Participate in technical design and solution-architecture discussions.
• Assess technical requirements and determine appropriate implementation approaches.
• Identify opportunities to improve application performance, maintainability, reliability and scalability.

Application Integration & APIs

• Design, develop and maintain application programming interfaces and software integrations.
• Develop and consume RESTful APIs and web services.
• Integrate Bay's applications with external systems and enterprise platforms.
• Work with data exchange, authentication, authorisation and service-integration requirements.
• Investigate and resolve integration issues between applications and external systems.
• Contribute to integration solutions supporting government and enterprise workflows.

Database & Data Engineering

• Design and develop database structures supporting application functionality.
• Write and optimise SQL queries and stored procedures where required.
• Work with relational databases and application data models.
• Analyse database performance and identify opportunities for optimisation.
• Maintain data integrity and appropriate transaction handling.
• Support application development involving complex business and transactional data.

Workflow & Business Applications

• Develop and enhance software supporting complex business workflows.
• Implement configurable workflow functionality based on business and operational requirements.
• Develop functionality involving task allocation, workflow progression, notifications, approvals and escalation.
• Contribute to solutions involving correspondence, document management, case management and regulatory processes.
• Develop functionality that supports audit trails, reporting, information retrieval and business accountability.
• Work with product stakeholders to understand how government users interact with the software and translate those requirements into technical solutions.

Bay's MINCOR platform publicly identifies workflow configuration, document management, webform/email integration, electronic endorsements, reporting, audit trails and access controls among its capabilities.

CIRAM similarly involves case management, investigations, compliance workflows, reporting, integrations, business rules, auditability and regulatory processes.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Develop and execute unit and integration tests.
• Participate in system, regression and functional testing.
• Investigate defects and perform root-cause analysis.
• Resolve software defects identified through development, testing and production environments.
• Participate in peer code reviews.
• Ensure software changes meet functional, technical, security and quality requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development and testing practices.

Production Support & Technical Troubleshooting

• Investigate application incidents and technical issues.
• Analyse application logs, system behaviour and error conditions.
• Diagnose complex software and integration problems.
• Implement corrective and preventative solutions.
• Assist with production deployments and post-release verification.
• Support the ongoing reliability and availability of enterprise applications.
• Participate in technical investigations relating to application performance and system behaviour.

Security, Privacy & Compliance

• Apply secure software-development principles throughout the development lifecycle.
• Implement appropriate authentication, authorisation and access-control mechanisms.
• Consider information security and data protection requirements when designing and developing software.
• Contribute to maintaining secure handling of government and sensitive information.
• Develop solutions supporting auditability, traceability and information governance.
• Identify and address potential security and technical risks within applications.

Technical Design & Engineering Practices

• Participate in architecture and technical solution design.
• Evaluate technical approaches and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Contribute to application architecture and system integration decisions.
• Review existing code and identify technical debt and opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in technical estimation and implementation planning.
• Contribute to coding standards, development guidelines and engineering practices.
• Maintain clear technical documentation for applications, interfaces and system components.

Technical Collaboration & Leadership

• Work collaboratively with developers, product personnel and business stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance on complex development tasks.
• Participate in technical discussions and solution reviews.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.
• Assist other developers in troubleshooting complex technical issues.
• Share technical knowledge and development practices with team members.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the software engineering function.

Salary & Employment

Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 per annum + superannuation

The salary offered will be commensurate with the successful applicant's qualifications, professional experience, technical capability and suitability for the role.
