Senior WHS Role | Flexible Permanent Position
The OpportunityAn established education organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to lead and continuously improve its Work Health & Safety framework. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will play a key part in fostering a strong safety culture, reducing workplace risk, and ensuring compliance with current WHS legislation and best practice.This is an excellent opportunity for a WHS professional looking for a meaningful, long-term position within a values-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Systems
- Lead the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the organisation's Work Health & Safety Management System.
- Develop, review and update WHS policies, procedures and safe work practices.
- Conduct and facilitate risk assessments, hazard identification and control reviews.
- Coordinate workplace inspections and audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor and report on WHS performance, incidents, injuries and key safety metrics.
- Maintain accurate WHS records, registers and reporting systems.
- Provide practical WHS advice, coaching and support to leaders and managers.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with relevant WHS legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
- Investigate incidents and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Drive risk reduction initiatives and continuous improvement strategies.
- Support the development of a proactive and positive safety culture across the organisation.
Stakeholder Engagement & Training
- Build strong working relationships with leadership teams and key stakeholders.
- Deliver safety training, awareness programmes and toolbox presentations.
- Support managers in developing accountability and capability in health and safety practices.
- Promote employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives.
About YouTo be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior WHS or Health & Safety Advisor position.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice.
- Experience developing and maintaining WHS Management Systems.
- Proven experience in incident management, investigations and risk assessments.
- Strong analytical, reporting and documentation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and provide practical WHS guidance.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality and attention to detail.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within education, public sector or similarly regulated environments.
- Understanding of child safety principles and associated compliance requirements.
