About the Business

AL HASSAN PTY LTD operates a mixed retail store serving the Marrickville community. The business supplies international and local groceries, all kind of nuts and dry fruits, beverages, household essentials and a range of everyday consumer products.

We are seeking an experienced Retail Manager to organise, direct and control the store's complete retail operations.

Position Summary

The Retail Manager will be responsible for the store's operational, financial and commercial performance. This includes managing product selection, stock levels, suppliers, purchasing, pricing, promotions, customer service, staffing, budgeting and regulatory compliance.

This is a genuine store-management position with responsibility for the overall operation of the retail establishment and the supervision and development of store employees.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Organising, directing and controlling the store's daily retail operations.
  • Determining the appropriate product mix, stock levels and customer-service standards.
  • Monitoring customer demand, sales trends and product performance.
  • Developing and implementing purchasing, stock-control and supplier-management procedures.
  • Negotiating with suppliers concerning product availability, pricing, delivery schedules and purchasing arrangements.
  • Establishing and reviewing retail prices in consideration of costs, margins, competition and market demand.
  • Planning and implementing store promotions, advertising activities and local marketing initiatives.
  • Managing product presentation, merchandising, store layout and promotional displays.
  • Monitoring stock levels and coordinating ordering, receiving, storage, stock rotation and replenishment.
  • Conducting stocktakes and implementing controls to minimise wastage, damage, theft and stock discrepancies.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inventory, sales and financial transactions.
  • Preparing and managing budgets for store revenue, wages, purchases and operating expenses.
  • Reviewing sales, expenses and financial performance and implementing strategies to improve profitability.
  • Recruiting, selecting, rostering, training, supervising and evaluating retail employees.
  • Establishing staff performance standards and ensuring employees provide efficient and professional customer service.
  • Coordinating the store's pricing, products, promotions and customer-delivery arrangements across applicable sales channels.
  • Monitoring customer satisfaction and resolving escalated complaints and service issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with work health and safety, food-safety, consumer-protection, employment and other applicable retail regulations.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness, security, presentation and safe operation of the retail premises.
  • Preparing operational, staffing, stock and financial reports for the company's directors.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess:

  • An AQF Diploma or higher qualification along with experience managing a retail store or comparable retail establishment.

Applicants must also demonstrate:

  • Experience managing the overall operations of a busy retail store.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management, stock control, purchasing and supplier coordination.
  • Experience determining product ranges, stock levels and retail pricing.
  • Experience managing budgets, sales, expenses, wages and store profitability.
  • Experience recruiting, rostering, training and supervising retail employees.
  • Strong merchandising, promotional and customer-service capabilities.
  • Knowledge of food safety, work health and safety and retail-compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Competence in point-of-sale, inventory and business-reporting systems.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required.

A salary of $80,000 - $85,000 plus superannuation will be offered to the successful applicant.
