An established manufacturing business is seeking a practical and methodical Reliability Engineer to support its ongoing maintenance and reliability improvement program.

The role will work closely with two experienced mechanical fitters who are responsible for carrying out structured equipment inspections across the plant. The inspection framework, documentation and initial work structure are already established, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to focus on executing the program effectively and developing their understanding of the site's equipment.

This is a hands-on engineering position suited to an early-career Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer who enjoys spending time on the factory floor, working alongside tradespeople and turning technical information into useful maintenance and reliability outcomes.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work closely with mechanical fitters carrying out equipment inspections across the plant
  • Review planned inspection activities and requirements with the fitters
  • Assist with interpreting inspection requirements, drawings and equipment information
  • Complete and maintain inspection documentation and technical records
  • Record equipment measurements, condition, defects, observations and recommendations
  • Capture and organise photographs and supporting technical information
  • Review inspection findings and identify items requiring further investigation or engineering action
  • Help determine whether equipment issues should be monitored, repaired, replaced or escalated
  • Follow up outstanding inspection actions and maintain visibility of progress
  • Coordinate with production and maintenance to identify suitable inspection opportunities
  • Plan inspection activities around production requirements and equipment availability
  • Review equipment drawings, manuals, maintenance records and historical information
  • Improve the quality and consistency of equipment and maintenance information
  • Provide regular updates on inspections completed, findings, outstanding actions and risks
  • Coordinate inspection schedules and outstanding reliability actions
  • Analyse inspection findings and identify recurring equipment issues
  • Support the development and improvement of preventive maintenance tasks
  • Establish and improve equipment condition and maintenance history
  • Support root cause investigations into recurring equipment failures
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintainability and availability
  • Support the development of maintenance procedures and technical documentation
  • Work with the maintenance team to improve maintenance practices and consistency
  • Provide structured reliability information to support maintenance and engineering decisions

Candidate Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineer or Mechatronics Engineer
  • Approximately 2–3 years of practical industry experience
  • Manufacturing, processing, FMCG, food manufacturing, building products or automated production experience highly regarded
  • Good understanding of mechanical equipment including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, chains and sprockets
  • Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, motors and rotating equipment
  • Comfortable reading mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and technical documentation
  • Practical and comfortable spending significant time on the factory floor
  • Good Excel and general computer skills
  • Strong ability to capture, structure and maintain technical information
  • Confident communicating with experienced tradespeople and production personnel
  • Organised, methodical and disciplined with documentation and follow-up
  • Curious and willing to ask questions and develop an understanding of plant equipment
  • Able to work independently once processes and expectations have been established

The successful candidate will initially focus on coordinating inspections, capturing accurate equipment information, reviewing findings and following up outstanding actions. Over time, the role will take greater ownership of reliability activities including condition monitoring, preventive maintenance improvement, root cause investigations and equipment reliability initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer to develop strong practical experience across maintenance, reliability and manufacturing, with the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as their understanding of the plant develops.

If you're a practical Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer looking to build your career in reliability engineering within a hands-on manufacturing environment, apply now.
