Principal Mechanical Engineer |Permanent Full-time |Perth CBD

We are partnering with a well-established Australian engineering business to identify an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineerfor an exciting portfolio of energy and infrastructure projects.

Our client has a strong pipeline of work across both existing assets and new developments, creating an opportunity for a senior engineer to take on significant technical responsibility while working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams.

About the Role
This position will suit an experienced Mechanical / Piping Engineer with a strong background in energy, oil & gas and major process facilities.
You will provide technical leadership across a range of projects, working closely with clients, project engineers, designers, suppliers and other technical specialists to develop and deliver practical engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
As the Principal Engineer, you will provide senior technical input across mechanical and piping engineering activities.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading mechanical and piping engineering scopes from concept through to detailed design
  • Developing engineering solutions for new and existing facilities
  • Reviewing layouts, engineering concepts and proposed design changes
  • Providing technical input during concept development and option selection
  • Preparing and reviewing calculations, reports, datasheets and technical documentation
  • Reviewing mechanical and piping design deliverables
  • Managing technical interfaces between mechanical, piping and other engineering disciplines
  • Working directly with client engineering and project representatives
  • Supporting technical discussions with vendors, suppliers and fabricators
  • Reviewing supplier documentation and technical submissions
  • Participating in tender and technical bid evaluations
  • Managing technical queries, deviations, modifications and design changes
  • Supporting the resolution of engineering issues associated with operating facilities
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and designers
  • Maintaining engineering quality and technical integrity throughout project delivery


About You

You will ideally have:

  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical and/or piping engineering
  • A Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
  • Extensive experience across oil & gas, LNG, hydrogen, energy or major process facilities
  • Strong exposure to both brownfield and greenfield environments
  • Experience working across offshore and/or onshore facilities
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment, piping systems, materials and valves
  • Sound understanding of applicable engineering codes and industry standards
  • Experience assessing existing facilities and developing modification solutions
  • Experience working within complex multidisciplinary project environments
  • Strong client interface and stakeholder management capability
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering calculations and deliverables

You will be comfortable working through complex engineering challenges, communicating solutions to stakeholders and taking ownership of technical outcomes.
Strong communication, organisation, commercial awareness and engineering judgement will be important, along with the ability to work collaboratively across different disciplines.
