International Engineering Consultancy | Hybrid Working | Diverse Infrastructure Projects

An established international engineering consultancy has engaged Konnecting Group to identify an experienced Legal Counsel to join its in-house legal team in Brisbane.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded legal professional to work across major engineering, mining, environmental and infrastructure projects, providing strategic legal advice to senior stakeholders throughout Australia and internationally.

Working closely with the General Counsel and multidisciplinary project teams, the successful candidate will play an important role in contract negotiations, commercial risk management, corporate governance and dispute resolution.

The Opportunity

This position offers a broad and varied legal portfolio, combining commercial contract management with strategic advice across complex engineering and infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction, engineering, consultancy and subcontractor agreements.
  • Providing practical commercial legal advice throughout project tendering, negotiation and delivery.
  • Advising internal stakeholders on contractual obligations, commercial risk and dispute avoidance.
  • Managing contractual claims and disputes in collaboration with insurers and external legal advisers.
  • Developing and maintaining standard contract templates, legal frameworks and governance procedures.
  • Supporting business units across mining, environmental, infrastructure, power and transportation projects.
  • Working closely with senior management to identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks.
  • Contributing to the development of internal policies, compliance procedures and contract management processes.
  • Providing legal guidance and training to project managers and operational teams.
  • Collaborating with legal and commercial colleagues across international operations.

About You

The successful candidate will be a qualified legal professional with strong commercial judgment, excellent communication skills and the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice within a technically complex business.
Ideally, you will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent recognised legal qualification.
  • Current admission to practise law in Australia.
  • A minimum of approximately five years' post-admission experience.
  • Strong experience in commercial contracts, construction law, engineering or infrastructure-related legal matters.
  • Demonstrated contract drafting, review and negotiation capabilities.
  • An understanding of commercial risk management and contractual dispute resolution.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organisational skills and sound commercial judgment.

Previous experience within an engineering consultancy, construction company, EPC contractor or a commercial law firm specialising in construction and infrastructure will be particularly advantageous.

Exposure to international contracts or legal matters involving other common-law jurisdictions would also be highly regarded.

What's on Offer?

  • Indicative salary of $160,000-$190,000 + superannuation, negotiable depending on experience.
  • Additional employer superannuation contribution of 2.5%.
  • Hybrid working arrangements.
  • Income protection insurance.
  • Additional parental and volunteer leave provisions.
  • Opportunity to purchase up to 15 days' additional annual leave.
  • Novated leasing options.
  • Performance-based incentives, where applicable.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • Exposure to major engineering, mining and infrastructure projects across international markets.
  • The opportunity to work closely with experienced senior legal and commercial professionals.
