About the Role

As the Lead Senior Engineer, you will provide expert engineering advice on development applications, assess complex development proposals, review engineering designs, and lead a team of engineering professionals.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will collaborate with developers, consultants, internal stakeholders and the wider community to ensure development outcomes meet Council standards, legislative requirements and best-practice engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the assessment of engineering aspects of development applications.
• Review and approve engineering plans, reports and technical submissions.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations for Council and delegated authorities.
• Provide expert advice to developers, consultants and internal stakeholders.
• Attend pre-lodgement meetings and development assessment forums.
• Mentor, coach and support team members while fostering continuous improvement.
• Manage complex issues, negotiations and stakeholder relationships with professionalism and sound judgement.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Council standards and engineering best practices.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

Essential Qualifications & Licences

• Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised university.
• Registered Professional Engineer Qld (RPEQ), or ability to obtain RPEQ registration within 12 months of commencement. 
• Corporate Membership of Engineers Australia (or eligibility to obtain membership).
• Current C Class Driver Licence.
• Construction Industry White Card (or willingness to obtain before commencement).

Technical Expertise

You will demonstrate:

• Extensive experience in civil, subdivision and development engineering.
• Strong knowledge of engineering design, construction practices and development assessment processes.
• Experience reviewing and approving engineering plans and specifications.
• Sound understanding of the Planning Act 2016, engineering standards and development compliance requirements.
• Ability to assess complex development applications and provide practical, risk-based solutions.

Leadership & Communication

You will be:

• A collaborative and influential leader who can mentor and develop others.
• Skilled at building productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• An effective communicator with exceptional customer service and negotiation skills.
• Able to confidently manage complex, sensitive and challenging situations.
