The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

Are you in Year 11 or Year 12 and love all things tech? Curious about how technology powers big industries? We've got just the opportunity for you.

Programmed, in partnership with Fortescue, is offering a school-based traineeship for First Nations students. You'll work one day a week - every Tuesday during school term - from Fortescue's head office in the Perth CBD, get paid, and complete a Certificate II in Applied Digital Technologies - a nationally recognised qualification that sets you up for future study or a career in ICT, digital systems, or tech support.

Whether you're interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) or just love problem-solving, this is a great way to get started - and you'll also get to learn how Fortescue uses technology to run their global operations.

What You'll Do:

  • Earn while you learn - paid work placement during school terms
  • Work alongside real IT professionals in a global company
  • Get experience with hardware, software, cyber safety, cloud tools, and more
  • Learn how to solve tech problems, manage data, and use digital systems
  • Discover how Fortescue's tech and systems support mining and energy operations
  • Finish with a nationally recognised qualification

Who We're Looking For:

  • Year 11 or Year 12 student attending a WA high school
  • First Nations student interested in tech, ICT, STEM, or digital systems
  • Reliable, curious, and keen to learn
  • Comfortable using computers and picking up new digital skills
  • Able to commit to working part-time while keeping up with school
  • Endorsement from the schools VET Coordinator

Why Join Fortescue:

You'll be part of a supportive team at one of Australia's leading resource companies. It's a great chance to build confidence, gain real work experience, and get a head start towards a career in technology, mining, or engineering.
