Hairdresser

Position Summary

The Hairdresser is responsible for providing professional hairdressing services to clients, including hair consultations, cutting, colouring, styling, hair treatments, straightening and smoothing services. The position requires a high standard of technical hairdressing skills, client consultation, product knowledge and salon hygiene.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Consult with clients to determine their desired hairstyle, colour, treatment and overall hair goals.
• Assess hair condition, previous colour and chemical history before commencing services.
• Provide professional advice regarding hair care, styling, treatments and suitable salon products.
• Shampoo, condition and prepare clients' hair for services.
• Perform haircuts using scissors, clippers, razors and other professional cutting tools.
• Perform hair colouring services including root colour, full-head colour, highlights, foils, balayage, colour corrections, toning and colour refresh services.
• Apply professional chemical products for hair colouring, straightening, smoothing and permanent waving services where appropriate.
• Perform professional hair treatments including conditioning, reconstruction, smoothing and frizz-control treatments.
• Perform hair straightening and smoothing services, including nanoplasty and other salon-approved chemical hair treatments, where appropriately trained.
• Blow-dry and style hair using brushes, combs, dryers, straightening irons, curling irons and other professional styling equipment.
• Create hairstyles for everyday occasions, events, weddings and other special occasions.
• Provide hair extensions and other hair enhancement services where appropriately trained.
• Maintain accurate client consultation and service records.
• Recommend appropriate aftercare and professional hair products to clients.
• Maintain a clean, hygienic and organised workstation and properly sanitise tools and equipment.
• Follow salon health, safety, chemical handling and hygiene procedures.
• Assist with maintaining salon stock and informing management when products or supplies need replenishing.
• Manage client appointments and process payments when required.
• Provide professional customer service and maintain a high standard of client care.
• Participate in salon training, product education and ongoing professional development.
• Work collaboratively with other salon team members to maintain efficient salon operations.

Required Skills and Experience

• Relevant hairdressing qualification and/or relevant industry experience consistent with the requirements for ANZSCO ******.
• Demonstrated experience in professional hair cutting, colouring and styling.
• Strong knowledge of hair colour, chemical services and hair treatments.
• Ability to conduct professional client consultations and assess hair condition.
• Knowledge of salon hygiene, workplace health and safety and safe handling of chemical products.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a professional salon team.

Core Hairdressing Services

The position may include:

Cutting: Women's and men's haircuts, trims, shaping and restyling.

Colour: Root touch-ups, global colour, highlights, foils, balayage, toning, colour corrections and colour maintenance.

Treatments: Conditioning, reconstruction, repair, smoothing and other professional hair treatments.

Styling: Blow-drying, straightening, curling, event styling and other professional hairstyling.

Chemical Services: Professional straightening, smoothing and permanent waving services, subject to training and client suitability.

Performance Expectations

The Hairdresser is expected to provide services safely and professionally, follow salon procedures, maintain hygiene standards, deliver quality client service and contribute to the efficient operation of the salon.
