Graduate Project Engineer – Mechanical Equipment Packages

KEY POINTS WE FOUND
  • Manage procurement lifecycle for mechanical equipment packages.
  • Conduct technical and commercial evaluations of bids.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and vendors.

About the Role

Jord International is seeking a Graduate Project Engineer with demonstrated experience in the engineering, procurement and delivery of mechanical equipment packages for complex industrial projects.

This is a specialist technical and commercial role requiring practical experience managing equipment packages through the complete procurement lifecycle, from preparation of technical RFQs and vendor evaluation through to purchase order placement, engineering coordination, manufacturing, quality inspection and final delivery.

We are specifically seeking candidates who have personally managed these activities, rather than those whose experience has been limited to general project coordination, construction supervision or project administration.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers and project stakeholders to ensure equipment packages are delivered in accordance with technical specifications, contractual requirements, quality standards, project schedules and approved budgets.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and issuing detailed Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for mechanical equipment packages, incorporating engineering specifications, datasheets, general arrangement drawings, applicable standards, Vendor Document Deliverables (VDDs) and commercial terms
  • Conducting technical and commercial bid evaluations, identifying vendor deviations, resolving non-conformances and recommending technically compliant and commercially competitive suppliers
  • Preparing and issuing purchase orders (POs) and managing vendor obligations against agreed technical, commercial and delivery requirements
  • Coordinating technical clarifications between mechanical, process, electrical and instrumentation engineers and equipment vendors
  • Leading vendor kick-off meetings, technical alignment discussions and manufacturing progress reviews
  • Reviewing vendor engineering documentation, including general arrangement drawings, 3D models, equipment datasheets, fabrication drawings and welding documentation
  • Reviewing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures, Manufacturing Data Records (MDRs) and associated quality documentation
  • Managing Vendor Document Deliverable (VDD) registers and ensuring documentation is submitted, reviewed and approved within contractual timeframes
  • Liaising with quality assurance personnel and vendors to resolve fabrication, inspection and manufacturing issues
  • Reviewing vendor invoices, verifying contractual milestones and approving payments in accordance with purchase order requirements
  • Coordinating shipping documentation, packing lists, customs clearance requirements and equipment logistics
  • Monitoring procurement schedules, manufacturing progress, vendor performance and equipment delivery against project milestones and budgets

Mandatory Experience and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must be able to demonstrate ALL of the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Direct, hands-on experience in the procurement and delivery of mechanical equipment packages for mining, mineral processing, energy or comparable heavy industrial projects
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and issuing technical RFQs incorporating mechanical equipment specifications, datasheets, drawings and vendor documentation requirements
  • Proven experience completing both technical and commercial bid evaluations, including assessment and resolution of vendor deviations
  • Direct experience preparing purchase orders and managing equipment vendors through engineering, manufacturing and delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to review and coordinate mechanical vendor documentation, including GA drawings, 3D models, fabrication drawings and equipment datasheets
  • Practical experience reviewing ITPs, FAT procedures, MDRs, welding documentation and manufacturing quality records
  • Experience managing vendor documentation schedules, technical queries, document reviews and approval workflows
  • Direct involvement in vendor kick-off meetings, manufacturing progress reviews and technical coordination meetings
  • Experience coordinating fabrication inspections, quality assurance activities and resolution of vendor non-conformances
  • Demonstrated experience managing equipment procurement schedules, delivery milestones and commercial obligations
  • Experience reviewing shipping documentation, coordinating logistics and verifying vendor invoices against contractual milestones
  • Proven ability to coordinate across mechanical, process, electrical and instrumentation engineering disciplines.

Applicants must have practical experience across the complete equipment procurement and delivery lifecycle. Experience in only one or two stages of this process will not meet the requirements of the role
