Who is Shift?

At Shift, our unique approach to product innovation combined with our collaborative culture means you can build your career in a supportive environment. You’ll be joining a diverse team of over 300 people who are always looking to deliver better outcomes for Australian businesses.

About the Role:

At Shift, DevOps isn’t just about ticket handling. You’ll have a say in how our cloud infrastructure is designed, built, secured, and maintained. This is a hands-on position where you’ll be responsible for end-to-end infrastructure and security tasks that directly impact our business.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support DevOps and security initiatives across Shift’s cloud environments, from design to delivery.

  • Build, maintain, and improve automated deployment pipelines using DevOps best practices.

  • Assist with security testing, vulnerability scanning, and remediation across our infrastructure.

  • Apply security best practices, help maintain policies and controls, and support the team in following them.

  • Monitor for emerging security threats and help manage risks proactively.

  • Work with engineering teams to ensure security is considered from the start in applications and tools.

  • Contribute to infrastructure and security improvement projects from planning through delivery.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 3+ years in a cloud infrastructure or technology role, with some security experience.

  • Solid hands-on experience with Azure or AWS (IaaS and PaaS).

  • Working knowledge of at least one scripting or programming language (Python, PowerShell, Bash, or C#).

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is preferred; Helm knowledge is a plus.

  • Understanding of security fundamentals (IAM, WAF, vulnerability management).

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub, Flux CD, Octopus Deploy).

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where self-direction is key.

Key benefits:

  • Hybrid working: we’re headquartered in North Sydney with state-based workplaces and offer a hybrid work policy. Our offices have spaces for collaboration, socialising and focused work.

  • Parental leave: up to 26 weeks paid.

  • Strategy Week: twice a year the whole team comes together to hear the business strategy and product and technology roadmap first-hand, with fortnightly all-company business updates in between.

  • Flat structure: everyone can learn from each other and senior leaders across the business.

  • Wellbeing: benefits supporting your physical, psychological and financial wellbeing, from a day off on your birthday to end of trip facilities.
