About the Opportunity:

Aspect Personnel is working with a large, diverse metropolitan council in Melbourne. They need an experienced Senior Building Surveyor for a 3-month temporary assignment. You will support the Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) and Deputy MBS to make sure Council meets its municipal building control duties under Victorian building legislation.

This role suits a registered Building Surveyor who is confident working on their own. You should enjoy technical work, dealing with customers, and representing Council on statutory matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent Council at Building Appeals Board and VBA hearings and inquiries as required
  • Give technical and legislative advice to the public, building professionals and Council officers, including at the counter and by phone

  • Keep accurate records of applications, permits, notices and orders

About You:

  • Registered as a Building Surveyor with the VBA / Building Practitioners Board (essential)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying
  • Proven building surveying experience across survey, inspection and consultancy, ideally including local government
  • Expert knowledge of Victorian building control legislation, codes and standards, and of construction practices
  • Able to inspect, investigate and give advice without supervision
  • Strong written communication, with high-quality reports and correspondence
  • Well-developed negotiation skills and a customer focus
  • Proficient in MS Office and record-keeping systems
  • Current driver's licence
