SkillQuest Solutions is seeking an experienced and compassionate Disability Support Workers on behalf of our client, an established care provider based in South Australia.

Providing individualised care and support to participants with disability, including individuals with severe and complex mental health conditions, the organisation is committed to promoting independence, dignity, choice and wellbeing.

Due to the particular needs of the participants supported by this service, the successful applicant must have demonstrated practical experience supporting people with significant mental health needs and be confident responding appropriately to changes in behaviour, emotional distress and challenging situations.

Position – Disability Support Worker

Location – Davoren Park, South Australia 5113

Salary - $65,000 - $80,000 plus superannuation per annum

Employment Type - Full-time, Permanent

THE ROLE:

This position involves providing person-centred disability support to participants with a range of daily living and personal care needs, including participants living with severe and complex mental illness.

You will work according to individual care and support plans, assisting participants with personal care, daily activities, community participation and emotional wellbeing while recognising and responding appropriately to changes in behaviour or mental wellbeing.

This role requires an experienced support worker who can remain calm, professional and responsive when supporting participants with complex needs while promoting their independence, dignity, choice and safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

· Provide individualised, person-centred support in accordance with participants' care plans, needs, preferences and identified mental health support requirements.

· Support participants living with severe and complex mental health conditions, recognising changes in behaviour, presentation or emotional wellbeing and responding appropriately within the scope of the role.

· Provide reassurance, emotional support and practical assistance during periods of distress or heightened support needs, following relevant care plans and organisational procedures.

· Assist with personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene.

· Support mobility, safe transfers and the appropriate use of mobility aids.

· Assist with daily living activities including meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, shopping and other household tasks.

· Support participants to attend appointments, access the community and participate in social and recreational activities.

· Administer prescribed medication in accordance with individual care plans, organisational procedures and relevant requirements.

· Observe and report changes in participants' behaviour, wellbeing or support needs and maintain accurate records and documentation.

· Respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies, following individual support plans, escalation procedures and workplace requirements.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

· Relevant qualification, such as a Certificate III in Disability Care, Aged Care or similar, or agreed equivalent.

· Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience providing disability or personal support.

· Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting participants living with severe or complex mental health conditions is essential.

· Demonstrated ability to recognise and respond appropriately to changes in a participant's behaviour, emotional state or mental wellbeing within the responsibilities of a Disability Support Worker.

· Experience following individual care, behaviour or support plans and established escalation procedures when participants experience distress or increased support needs.

· Demonstrated experience providing personal care and assistance with activities of daily living.

· Ability to provide calm, respectful and person-centred support while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

· Experience supporting participants with community access, appointments, social participation and daily routines.

· Strong communication and observation skills, including the ability to accurately document and report changes in a participant's presentation or support needs.

· Ability to work independently, exercise appropriate judgement within the scope of the role and escalate concerns to relevant senior or clinical staff when required.

· Flexibility to work across a range of shifts according to participant and service requirements.

· Current Australian driver’s license, NDIS Worker Screening Check and First Aid/CPR certification is highly desirable.

· You must have unrestricted working rights to work full time in Australia to be eligible for consideration.
