About the Role

The Groove Train Blackburn is seeking an experienced Chef to join its kitchen team. The successful candidate will prepare and cook a range of menu items, maintain consistent food quality and presentation, and support the efficient operation of the commercial kitchen during service periods.

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 per annum plus Superannuation

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and cook a variety of menu items in accordance with established recipes and presentation standards
  2. Monitor food preparation and cooking processes to maintain consistent quality, taste and presentation
  3. Inspect ingredients and food products to ensure freshness and appropriate quality
  4. Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers and other commercial cooking equipment
  5. Portion, season and present dishes in accordance with restaurant standards
  6. Assist with menu planning, daily specials and preparation requirements
  7. Monitor ingredient usage and stock levels and assist with food ordering and inventory control
  8. Ensure food and ingredients are stored, handled and rotated appropriately to maintain quality and minimise wastage
  9. Guide and support junior kitchen staff during food preparation and service
  10. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, equipment and storage areas
  11. Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements

Candidate Requirements

  1. Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or a related discipline
  2. Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen
  3. Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and commercial kitchen operations
  4. Ability to prepare and cook a diverse range of menu items while maintaining consistent quality and presentation
  5. Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling practices
  6. Ability to work efficiently during busy service periods
  7. Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills
  8. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment
