About the role

As a Graduate Physicist, you’ll join the SA Medical Imaging (SAMI) team and contribute to the delivery of medical physics and radiation safety support across our medical imaging services. Working across SAMI sites and, where required, state-wide, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in a supportive and collaborative environment while helping ensure safe, high-quality imaging for patients and staff.

You’ll assist with quality control, radiation dose optimisation and audit activities, while supporting radiation legislative compliance across medical imaging services. You’ll also have opportunities to contribute to teaching and research, building your professional capability and applying your physics knowledge to meaningful healthcare outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in medical physics while making a real difference to the delivery of safe and effective patient care.

About You

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Physicist who is keen to apply their physics knowledge in a healthcare environment and develop a career in medical physics and radiation safety. You’ll bring strong analytical and communication skills, a commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Qualifications: An ACPSEM-approved bachelor’s degree in physics, such as a bachelor’s degree majoring in physics from an Australian or New Zealand university, or an equivalent overseas qualification assessed by NOOSR or NZQA.
  • Licensing eligibility: Be eligible to hold a South Australian EPA licence to operate an ionising radiation apparatus and a South Australian EPA licence to use or handle radioactive substances.
  • Skills and capabilities: Communicate effectively with hospital staff at all levels, prioritise work and meet deadlines, demonstrate initiative and analytical ability, and confidently conduct analyses, prepare reports, formulate recommendations and deliver presentations.
  • Knowledge and experience: Sound knowledge of radiation physics is important. Previous experience is not essential—we welcome graduates who are motivated to learn, develop and contribute within a team environment.
