iDuct is an Australian manufacturer specialising in the manufacture and supply of HVAC ductwork and associated sheet-metal products for commercial and residential construction projects.
Operating from manufacturing facilities in Regents Park, NSW, iDuct manufactures rigid ductwork, plenum boxes, cushion-head boxes and other customised HVAC components from mechanical drawings and project specifications.
Due to ongoing operational requirements and the technical demands of our HVAC manufacturing activities, we are seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis.
The Mechanical Engineer will provide professional engineering support across the design, technical assessment, manufacture, quality assurance and performance of HVAC ductwork, mechanical components and associated manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- reviewing and interpreting mechanical services drawings, HVAC layouts, specifications and project documentation;
- assessing ductwork configurations, dimensions, transitions, fittings, plenums and associated HVAC components;
- developing engineering and manufacturing specifications for ductwork and sheet-metal products;
- determining appropriate materials, dimensions, sheet-metal thicknesses, reinforcement, connection and fabrication requirements;
- undertaking mechanical engineering calculations and technical assessments relating to airflow, pressure, material performance and mechanical integrity where required;
- assessing designs for technical suitability, manufacturability and installation requirements;
- providing engineering solutions for complex and non-standard ductwork fabrication requirements;
- providing technical engineering guidance to production and fabrication personnel;
- investigating manufacturing defects, technical problems and product non-conformances and implementing appropriate corrective actions;
- establishing and maintaining engineering quality, inspection and testing requirements;
- monitoring the performance and capability of mechanical manufacturing equipment;
- investigating equipment performance issues and recommending maintenance, modification or equipment improvements;
- identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, plant layout, material utilisation and production efficiency;
- assisting with the design and implementation of modifications to manufacturing equipment, tooling and production systems;
- liaising with customers, project managers, suppliers and internal personnel regarding engineering and technical requirements; and
- preparing and maintaining engineering drawings, specifications, technical instructions and associated engineering documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this position, applicants should possess:
- a Bachelor Degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline;
- sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles;
- ability to interpret mechanical, HVAC and construction drawings and specifications;
- demonstrated engineering design, analysis and problem-solving capability;
- understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes;
- experience using relevant CAD, engineering design or technical drafting software;
- sound knowledge of engineering quality, safety and technical compliance requirements; and
- strong communication and technical documentation skills.
Experience within HVAC, mechanical ventilation, building services, ductwork manufacturing, sheet-metal fabrication or a related manufacturing environment will be highly regarded.
