Operational Risk Lead
- Provide independent second-line oversight and challenge across operational and non-financial risk.
- Partner with senior stakeholders to identify, assess and manage key operational risks.

Mars Recruitment is partnering with a leading financial services organisation to onboard a senior member of the Enterprise Risk function, you will provide independent second-line oversight, challenge and advice across the organisation, partnering closely with senior leaders and risk owners. You will play a key role in strengthening operational risk capability, enhancing risk frameworks and driving a proactive and effective risk culture.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing second-line oversight and challenge across operational and non-financial risk.
- Partnering with senior stakeholders and risk owners to identify, assess and manage key operational risks.
- Driving the ongoing enhancement and embedding of the organisation's Risk Management Framework.
- Reviewing and challenging first-line risk assessments, controls, incidents, issues and remediation activities.
- Providing oversight across RCSA, risk appetite metrics, controls and assurance activities.
- Conducting thematic and deep-dive reviews to identify emerging or systemic risk themes.
- Providing independent risk oversight across material change, transformation and third-party initiatives.
- Supporting operational resilience activities, including business continuity and other key non-financial risk areas.
- Contributing to senior management and Board-level risk reporting and governance.
- Developing and maintaining risk policies, standards, frameworks and training materials.
- Influencing and uplifting risk capability and culture across the organisation.
Key Requirements:
- 8+ years' experience across Operational, Enterprise or Non-Financial Risk, ideally within financial services or a similarly regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of second-line risk oversight and the ability to balance independent challenge with practical, commercially focused advice.
- Sound knowledge of the APRA regulatory environment, particularly CPS 220 and CPS 230.
- Broad operational risk experience spanning areas such as RCSA, risk appetite, controls, incidents and issues, assurance and remediation.
- Experience partnering with the business through significant risk in change, transformation or strategic initiatives.
- Confidence engaging with and influencing senior leaders, including constructively challenging decisions where required.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a business, finance, legal or related discipline will be highly regarded.
