Your new company

With a strong focus on environmental stewardship, innovation and long-term planning, the organisation is seeking an experienced leader to drive environmental outcomes, sustainability initiatives and strategic service delivery across a diverse portfolio.

Your new role
As the Head of Environment and Sustainability, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across environmental planning, sustainability, compliance, waste and resource recovery, and community engagement initiatives while leading a multidisciplinary team and advising senior stakeholders.

  • Lead the organisation's Environment and Sustainability function, providing direction across environmental planning, compliance and sustainability programs.
  • Drive initiatives relating to carbon management, circular economy principles and resource recovery planning.
  • Develop and implement strategies that support long-term environmental and community outcomes.
  • Provide expert advice to Executive leadership and Council on environmental and sustainability matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, industry bodies, community groups and regional stakeholders.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team through growth, change and competing priorities.
  • Identify funding opportunities, partnerships and innovative solutions that deliver value to the organisation and broader community.
  • Monitor emerging environmental legislation, industry trends and regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing compliance and best-practice service delivery.
  • Lead the development and implementation of community engagement programs that increase awareness and participation in environmental and sustainability initiatives.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within environmental management, sustainability or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of environmental compliance, governance and risk management frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and deliver outcomes within complex and regulated environments.
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships across community, government and industry sectors.
  • Sound financial, procurement, contract and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage at senior leadership level.
