About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Lecturer to provide academic leadership and contribute to high-quality teaching, assessment and curriculum improvement within an assigned discipline or program.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution beyond classroom teaching. You will support Unit Coordinators and lecturers, promote consistent academic standards, strengthen assessment quality and help improve student engagement and academic outcomes across our campuses and delivery modes.

Working closely with the Academic Program Manager, you will use your academic expertise, professional judgement and collaborative approach to guide colleagues, identify emerging delivery risks and contribute to continuous improvement.

This role is ideal for an experienced academic who enjoys mentoring colleagues, sharing best practice and influencing academic quality without the formal responsibilities of line management.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Academic Practice

  • Deliver high-quality teaching across face-to-face, blended and online formats in accordance with allocated workload.
  • Apply contemporary, inclusive and evidence-informed teaching practices and use learning technologies effectively.
  • Provide students with clear academic guidance, timely feedback and scheduled consultation opportunities.
  • Maintain current disciplinary, professional and pedagogical knowledge.

Academic Coordination and Quality

  • Provide functional academic oversight and guidance to Unit Coordinators within the assigned program or discipline.
  • Monitor unit readiness, curriculum coverage, learning resources, assessment schedules, marking progress and academic records.
  • Support consistent academic delivery and help resolve routine delivery issues.
  • Identify and escalate significant academic delivery risks to the Academic Program Manager.

Assessment and Academic Standards

  • Support the design, review and implementation of valid, reliable and appropriately levelled assessments.
  • Lead or contribute to assessment moderation, benchmarking, peer review and calibration of marking standards.
  • Monitor the quality and timeliness of marking and feedback.
  • Ensure allocated grades and academic records are accurate and submitted within required timelines.

Lecturer Support and Development

  • Provide practical academic guidance to lecturers on teaching, assessment, feedback, student engagement and approved course requirements.
  • Support the induction and academic orientation of new permanent and sessional lecturers.
  • Mentor colleagues, share effective teaching practices and contribute to peer observation and academic development.
  • Provide constructive feedback and refer staff performance, conduct or workload concerns to the Academic Program Manager.

Student Engagement and Academic Outcomes

  • Monitor student achievement, engagement and feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support Unit Coordinators and lecturers to identify students at academic risk and implement timely interventions.
  • Refer students to appropriate support services in accordance with established College processes.
  • Respond professionally to complex academic enquiries, concerns and complaints referred for senior academic input.

Curriculum Improvement and Scholarship

  • Recommend curriculum and assessment improvements informed by student outcomes, feedback, scholarly evidence, industry developments and peer review.
  • Contribute disciplinary expertise to course monitoring, review, redevelopment and new-course implementation.
  • Undertake scholarly activity relevant to the discipline and apply findings to strengthen teaching and curriculum currency.
  • Contribute to the School’s scholarly and professional development culture through presentations, communities of practice and applied projects.

Multi-campus Delivery, Governance and Compliance

  • Support academically equivalent delivery across campuses, student cohorts and delivery modes.
  • Promote consistent expectations for curriculum coverage, assessment, moderation, feedback and student communication.
  • Promote academic integrity and follow approved processes for suspected breaches.
  • Contribute academic evidence and expertise to quality assurance, regulatory review and professional accreditation activities.
  • Identify and escalate risks relating to academic standards, student outcomes, staffing capability, safety or continuity of delivery.

About You

You are an experienced higher education academic with strong teaching and assessment capabilities, sound academic judgement, and the ability to support colleagues and contribute to academic quality and student outcomes.

You will bring:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a discipline relevant to the assigned teaching area; a doctoral qualification is preferred.
  • Qualifications and/or equivalent professional experience that meet institutional requirements for the level and field of teaching undertaken.
  • Substantial experience in higher education teaching, assessment and unit or course coordination.
  • Experience supporting academic colleagues and improving teaching, assessment or student outcomes.
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarship and professional currency in your discipline.
  • Knowledge of contemporary higher education teaching, curriculum design, assessment, moderation, academic integrity and student support practices.
  • An understanding of the Higher Education Standards Framework, Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), TEQSA expectations and applicable professional accreditation or CRICOS requirements.
  • The ability to interpret academic and student performance data and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong communication, organisation, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to manage teaching and coordination deadlines while maintaining accuracy and academic standards.
  • Experience working across multiple campuses and/or online and blended delivery environments will be highly regarded.
