Are you an experienced marine geophysicist ready to take on complex, high-impact projects across Australia’s coastal, offshore and overwater environments?

WSP in Australia is looking for an experienced Marine Geophysicist to join our Earth and Environment business, supporting our Geotechnics and Tunnels capability. This is a senior technical role for someone who brings deep marine geophysics expertise, strong consulting capability and the confidence to guide clients, project teams and emerging professionals.

You will provide technical advice on complex ground engineering issues, deliver best-practice consulting services, and use marine geophysical techniques to synthesise and analyse data that supports evidence-based decisions and recommendations.

What you’ll do

In this role, you’ll lead and support marine geophysical investigations across a wide range of engineering, geotechnical and environmental projects. This may include work associated with seaports, marinas, shipping channels, offshore installations, alignments and routes, tailings dams, reservoirs, dams and river crossings.

You’ll manage, conduct, analyse and report on overwater and marine geophysical surveys, while preparing proposals, tenders, reports and high-quality technical deliverables. You’ll also establish project scope, time and cost management systems to support successful project delivery.

As a senior technical specialist, you’ll review the technical quality of work performed by the team, promote a culture of technical excellence, and provide marine geophysics support to specialists across other disciplines and offices within.

A key part of your role will be mentoring junior geophysicists across technical delivery, project management and client relationships, helping to build future capability within the team.

About you

You’re a recognised marine geophysics expert with broad experience providing technical expertise across marine projects, including port and harbour developments, offshore pipeline and cable routes, and offshore wind investigations. Ideally you’ll have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geophysics or a related discipline.  A Master's degree or PhD in Geophysics will be well-regarded but is not essential.
  • Typically 10+ years of marine geophysics experience.
  • Recognition as a technical expert across marine geophysics projects.
  • Experience supporting port, harbour, offshore pipeline, cable route and offshore wind projects.
  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven capability managing marine geophysical investigations from planning through to reporting.
  • Expertise in marine geophysical acquisition methods, including bathymetry, sub-bottom profiling, seismic reflection, side-scan sonar and magnetometer surveys.
  • Experience using industry-standard software such as SonarWiz, Hypack, RadexPro, DUG, Kingdom, Qinsy, ReflexW and Rayfract.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing early-career geophysicists.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Current unrestricted Australian driver's licence.

Highly regarded certifications:

  • Coxswain Certificate.
  • BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training).
  • ADAS Commercial or Scientific Diver certification.
