Royal Flying Doctor Service Dental Team have a unique opportunity for Dentists working in private practice who are seeking to be a part of a team dedicated to increasing accessibility to oral healthcare in regional and remote communities.

With a commitment of approximately 4-6 weeks per year this is a great opportunity to join a dedicated team serving the healthcare needs of rural and remote communities across Western Australia. In these vast and isolated regions, many people lack access to regular dental services. The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides free dental care to individuals facing geographical and socioeconomic challenges through our fly-in fly-out clinics.

We’re looking for compassionate and adaptable individuals to join our team as Dentists on a casual basis. In this role, you’ll travel to regional locations, operating clinics alongside our Dental Assistants for one to two weeks at a time.

About the role

- Emergency, preventative and general (non-urgent) dental health care to children and adults in designated rural and remote locations within Western Australia
- Oral advice
- Referral on to other services for more complex dental treatments (denture, crowns, orthodontic)
- Fixed site locations, with further expansion into delivering clinics with remote dental kits.

About you

- Available for a minimum of four weeks a year (one to two week blocks) to FIFO
- Registration with AHPRA as a Dental Practitioner
- Maintain CPD as required by AHPRA registration
- A minimum of three years of experience in remote clinical practice
- Interest in indigenous health (experience will be highly regarded)
- Commitment to excellence in the delivery of patient-focused health care
- Current driver’s license
- Professional Indemnity Insurance
- Strong communicator and team player
- Experience with electronic patient record systems

About Us

The mission of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is to provide excellence in aeromedical and primary health care across Western Australia. Every member of the RFDS WO team contributes to that mission and living our values of showing respect, demonstrating fairness, utilising diversity and being safe. Every year, the RFDS WO provides urgent retrieval for about 10,000 patients in regional WA. A further 10,000 appointments are provided in primary healthcare clinics in remote communities, including GP, nurse, dental and mental health care. RFDS crews are committed to providing the finest care to the furthest corners of the State, using the highest standards of clinical care, aviation safety and technology to make a difference to people living and working across WA – the largest and most remote health jurisdiction in the world.

The RFDS in WA operates five bases in Perth, Broome, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie and Meekatharra. Our 24/7 operations centre at Jandakot Airport coordinates complex logistics for patient retrievals and clinics across the State. We work in partnership with government, business and the community, and are proud to work on Country with Aboriginal medical services and many local service providers.

In 2024, the RFDS is launching a new five-year strategy ‘Above and Beyond’, which will mark an important new chapter in the long Flying Doctor history. The strategy will include a focus on expanding remote health clinics in some of WA’s most vulnerable communities, expanding our profit-for-purpose services, strengthening our workforce, harnessing technology and addressing our environmental sustainability.
