The Role

The purpose of a BioChar Consultant is to provide specialist biochar advisory support to customers, growers and internal stakeholders, helping identify practical biochar applications that improve soil health, support sustainable agriculture and contribute to carbon removal outcomes.

Consulting & Advisory

  • Provide technical and commercial biochar advice to customers, growers and internal stakeholders by assessing customer needs, application opportunities and practical implementation requirements.
  • Assess customer, grower and project requirements to identify suitable biochar products, application rates, trial designs and expected agronomic or sustainability benefits.
  • Provide practical recommendations on biochar use in agricultural systems, including soil improvement, nutrient retention, moisture management and feedstock or production considerations.
  • Support the design, coordination and monitoring of biochar trials, including data collection, customer feedback, quality observations and reporting of outcomes.
  • Prepare customer proposals, technical summaries and internal reports that clearly communicate biochar value propositions, risks, assumptions and next steps.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build trusted relationships with customers, growers, suppliers, industry bodies and internal teams to support biochar education, adoption and continuous improvement.

Safety & Health

  • Understand Safety Management Systems relevant to your role, promote safe biochar advisory and trial practices, and ensure recommendations do not put yourself, customers, growers, contractors or others at risk.
  • Proactively identify, raise and support the resolution of safety, quality and environmental risks associated with biochar use and customer engagement.

Candidate requirements

Experience & knowledge

  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in agronomy, soil science, sustainable agriculture, carbon projects, biochar, compost, fertiliser, environmental consulting or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of soil health, agricultural systems, customer advisory processes and practical field trial or project implementation.

Skills

  • Strong consulting, communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in a practical and commercially relevant way.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and report writing capability, with sound attention to detail and a commitment to safe, sustainable and customer-focused outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in agriculture, agronomy, soil science, environmental science, sustainability or a related discipline are preferred.
  • Current unencumbered driver’s licence to enable travel to customer, grower and project sites.
