Suicide Prevention Peer Worker – Lived Experience
Warmline (Part-Time, 22.8 hours/week)

Turn your lived experience into hope & help others find their way forward.

Your lived experience matters.

Your story can make a difference.

At Warmline, we believe that connection, understanding and hope can make a real difference in someone's life. We're looking for a compassionate and authentic Suicide Prevention Peer Worker who is ready to use their lived experience to support others navigating suicidal thoughts, distress or the grief of losing someone to suicide.

This is more than a support role. It's an opportunity to turn your personal journey into meaningful connection, remind others that they are not alone and help people discover their own strengths and possibilities for recovery.

If you believe in the power of lived experience and want to make a genuine difference in your community, we'd love to hear from you.

About the role

As a Suicide Prevention Peer Worker, your lived experience and personal recovery journey will be central to the support you provide.

You will build genuine connections with participants, offering empathy, encouragement and hope while empowering people to recognise their strengths, explore coping strategies and navigate challenging moments.

Working as part of a supportive Suicide Prevention Team, you'll help create conversations that remind people their experiences matter, their voices deserve to be heard and they don't have to face difficult times alone.

What you'll do

  • Respond to initial calls and provide ongoing, scheduled phone support.
  • Build trusting relationships through compassionate, respectful and non-judgmental conversations.
  • Use your lived experience thoughtfully to foster connection, understanding and hope.
  • Support participants to explore coping strategies, develop personalised safety plans and identify their strengths.
  • Encourage wellbeing, recovery and connection with appropriate support services.
  • Work collaboratively with the Suicide Prevention Team Leader to ensure participants receive appropriate and coordinated support.

Your working hours

This is a part-time, office-based position in Rockhampton, offering 22.8 hours per week.

Your regular shifts will be:

  • Monday: 12.00 pm – 6.48 pm
  • Tuesday: 11.00 am – 6.00 pm
  • Wednesday: 2.00 pm – 8.00 pm
  • Saturday: 12.30 pm – 5.30 pm

Is this role for you?

You know that sometimes, the most powerful thing we can offer another person is understanding.

You bring warmth, empathy and authenticity to your conversations. You recognise that everyone's recovery journey is different, and you believe people deserve to be met with dignity, respect and compassion.

You don't need to have all the answers. Your lived experience is your qualification!

What matters is your ability to connect with others, draw on your lived experience in a safe and purposeful way and support people to discover their own path forward.

We'd love to hear your story. Please submit your Resume AND Cover letter outlining your lived experience and why you're passionate about supporting others through their recovery journey.

Requirements:

  • Lived experience of suicidality or suicide bereavement, alongside a personal recovery journey that enables you to support others safely and effectively.
  • The right to work in Australia
  • Current Driver’s Licence and ability to travel if required
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate – Free online course
  • National Police Records Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card in QLD)
  • Desirable - Certificate IV in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work, or equivalent experience in community or mental health services

Here's what you can look forward to:

  • Make a meaningful difference: Help people feel heard, understood and less alone during difficult times.
  • Be valued for who you are: Work in an inclusive environment where lived experience, individuality and peer connection are recognised and respected.
  • Enjoy salary packaging benefits: Access salary packaging of up to $15,899 per year, potentially reducing your taxable income when used for eligible expenses such as rent or mortgage repayments.
