Osborne Richardson are delighted to be partnering with our transport-focused State Government colleagues on the Gold Coast for a cracking Student Engineer (Civil) opportunity, right in our home patch at Nerang.

Sitting within the South Coast Region Asset Management team, you'll work under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer and report to a Principal Engineer (Civil). It's a genuine hands-on start to a civil engineering career, with real work on heavy vehicle permits and road and bridge maintenance across the state-controlled network.

What you'll be doing

  • Helping coordinate the day-to-day activities and resources behind heavy vehicle permit delivery across the region
  • Assessing the most suitable workflow for each heavy vehicle application, then administering the permits to make sure they're compliant and delivered well
  • Spotting possible problem areas and helping negotiate modifications or adaptations to heavy vehicle routes where needed
  • Helping determine bridge and road maintenance procedures and work instructions, and managing maintenance tasks
  • Learning to calculate material quantities, analyse materials test results, identify non-conformances, set construction controls and carry out risk assessments
  • Managing projects or elements of projects under supervision
  • Following all quality management procedures and keeping good communication with internal and external stakeholders

What we're looking for

  1. Currently enrolled in the second or third year of a four-year, Washington Accord accredited Bachelor of Engineering (civil), or an Engineers Australia assessed equivalent
  2. A current Class C driver's licence and your own suitable PPE
  3. A genuine interest in road and bridge infrastructure, asset maintenance and heavy vehicle access
  4. Comfortable with numbers: quantities, test results and the detail that sits behind them
  5. Clear written and verbal communication with a range of stakeholders
  6. Organised, with a methodical eye for quality and process
  7. Happy to learn under supervision and work as part of a close team

What's on offer: a flexible full-time 12 month contract from 23 November 2026 to 22 November 2027, extension likely, based at Nerang on the Gold Coast, with day-to-day mentoring from experienced Senior and Principal Engineers.
