Assistant Curator, First Nations Art - Affirmative Measures
- Participate in the care and documentation of the Memorial's Art Collection with a focus on First Nations art.

THE ROLE
Under general direction and with professional supervision, the Assistant Curator, First Nations Art participates in the care, documentation and day-to-day administration of the Memorial's Art Collection, with a particular focus on First Nations art and artists. The position provides curatorial and administrative support for major First Nations (and non-First Nations) commissions and acquisitions and contributes to collection research and public programming. The role involves responding to enquiries and liaising with artists, clients, institutions, organisations, and community stakeholders; assisting with collection development; and undertaking a range of collection management tasks using the Memorial's collection management systems. An important element of the position is supporting outreach and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, communities and stakeholders across Australia.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, histories and cultures, and an understanding of culturally appropriate engagement and consultation practices with First Nations artists, communities, and organisations.
2. Demonstrated ability to undertake research, analyse information, and contribute to curatorial projects including acquisitions, commissions, exhibitions, collection development, and interpretive content.
3. Experience in collection management, documentation, and recordkeeping, including the ability to maintain accurate collection records and use collection management databases or similar information management systems.
4. Well-developed written and oral communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with artists, community stakeholders, colleagues, and external organisations, and respond professionally to enquiries.
5. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, work collaboratively within a team environment, and contribute to the successful delivery of multiple project programs and collection activities within agreed timeframes.
