Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer (NV1)

As a Mainframe z/OS System Programmer, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, support and optimisation of critical z/OS system software environments. Working closely with clients, infrastructure teams and other technology service lines, you will help ensure the stability, availability and performance of enterprise mainframe platforms supporting multiple business-critical workloads.

You will play a key role in software maintenance, systems programming activities, technical troubleshooting and the implementation of vendor-supplied software products. This position offers the opportunity to work across complex enterprise environments while contributing to ongoing platform improvements and best practice initiatives.

This role does require an active AGSVA NV1 clearance at a minimum. Australian Citizens who have the abilty to secure a baseline and NV1 cleaarance may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to clients and internal technology teams across the mainframe environment.
  • Perform z/OS systems programming activities, including installation, maintenance, upgrades and configuration of operating system and vendor software products.
  • Coordinate project resources required to deliver software maintenance and installation schedules.
  • Ensure z/OS operating systems and associated software products remain supported, current and optimised.
  • Work closely with z/OS administrators and infrastructure teams to analyse, troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve system stability and performance.
  • Plan, support and manage the installation, testing and implementation of infrastructure and vendor-supplied software solutions.
  • Participate in the planning, design and governance of best practices for z/OS COTS vendor product environments.
  • Analyse technical system changes and software enhancements to assess operational impacts and ensure continued service availability.
  • Support sysplex, JES, Unix System Services, TCP/IP and other core z/OS infrastructure components.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning, testing and recovery exercises to ensure platform resilience.
  • Support and administer third-party vendor software products, including print management solutions.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and system standards.
  • Provide on-call support and participate in incident management activities as required.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience as a Mainframe z/OS System Programmer within large enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience in z/OS operating system installation, maintenance and support.
  • Proficiency in JCL, REXX and HLASM programming.
  • Strong understanding of z/OS architecture and services, including JES2/JES3, Sysplex, Unix System Services (USS), Communications Server (VTAM and TCP/IP) etc
  • Solid problem determination, troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across operating systems and program products.
  • Experience using system monitoring and performance management tools.
  • Proven capability supporting multiple client workloads in complex mainframe environments.
  • Experience coordinating software maintenance, upgrades and vendor product implementations.
  • Strong knowledge of disaster recovery planning, testing and operational readiness.
  • Experience administering third-party vendor software products, including enterprise print management solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
  • Strong ownership, reliability and a proactive approach to problem solving in production environments.
