Your new company
At Hays, we believe in being long-term partners with our people, as well as our customers. Together, we will work for your tomorrow, and the possibilities are endless. With over 50 years of business success, we have built a reputation as the world leader in specialist recruitment and workforce solutions.
Your new role
As our Telco Automation and AI Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and supporting intelligent automation solutions across our telecommunications environment.
Combining telecommunications engineering with emerging AI and automation technologies, you'll design, build and maintain AI-driven agents and automated workflows to support network fault correlation, root-cause analysis and remediation across telecommunications infrastructure, including MPLS and DWDM/transport networks.
Responsibilities will include:
- Design, build and maintain AI-driven agents and automated workflows for network fault correlation, root-cause analysis and remediation.
- Maintain telecommunications operational support systems to ensure networks can be managed efficiently and within agreed service-level agreements.
- Investigate, analyse and resolve technical faults, system exceptions and major outages within automation pipelines.
- Develop and maintain operational scripts using technologies such as Python, JavaScript, PowerShell or VBA.
- Coordinate planned outages, platform updates and API upgrades to maintain system integrity and availability.
- Monitor automation performance and provide technical assessments and data-driven reporting, including exception rates, ROI and efficiency improvements.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including Process Definition Documents, Solution Design Documents, technical architecture drawings and knowledge bases.
- Build expertise across AI/ML, agentic automation, AI orchestration and MLOps platforms to help progress towards greater network autonomy.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and operational support activities where required
What you'll need to succeed
You'll be a technically capable and solutions-focused professional with strong analytical skills and an interest in using AI and automation to solve complex telecommunications and operational challenges. Ideally, you will bring:
- Strong hands-on knowledge of automation, AI/agentic orchestration and workflow technologies, including AI/MLOps or agent-building platforms.
- Experience with automation/RPA tools such as Microsoft Power Automate and/or Zapier.
- Demonstrated scripting capability using Python, JavaScript, PowerShell or VBA.
- Experience with telecommunications OSS/NMS platforms such as IBM Netcool, Ciena MCP or Cisco network management systems will be highly regarded.
- Knowledge of network telemetry and integration protocols such as SNMP, NETCONF/YANG and REST APIs will be highly regarded.
- Strong technical judgement and the ability to logically analyse complex technical workflows and business problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and quickly learn new systems and technologies.
Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Business Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline are desirable. Relevant industry certifications across automation/RPA or telecommunications technologies, including Microsoft Power Platform, Cisco or Ciena, will also be well regarded. ITIL V3 Foundation certification is desirable.
The successful candidate will also need to complete a satisfactory security check for suitability to operate critical telecommunications services and infrastructure.
