ABOUT US:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer with AI and automation capabilities to join our team. The role involves preparing and releasing technical drawings using CAD software, determining material requirements and developing practical engineering solutions to improve our manufacturing processes and operations. Working closely with the production and sales teams, the Mechanical Engineer will lead process improvements, support manufacturing assessments and use AI and data analysis to improve productivity, quality and equipment reliability.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Technical Drawing and Material Determination:
o Develop, review and release accurate CAD drawings, CNC programs and setup sheets for manufacturing processes.
o Translate customer drawings and job specifications into clear manufacturing instructions.
o Determine material requirements, specifications and quantities based on drawings and project requirements.
o Assess manufacturing feasibility against machine capacity, tooling availability and process limitations.
o Optimise CNC cutting paths and nesting to improve machine efficiency and material utilisation.
o Review and update existing CAD/CAM programs to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Engineering Solutions:
o Explore and deliver engineering solutions to technical problems.
o Enhance and improve processes and operations within the facility / department.
• Document Development and Review:
o Develop, review, and maintain engineering documents, specifications, and technical analyses.
o Support product development and testing activities.
• Problem Solving and Commercial Analysis:
o Solve mechanical engineering problems.
o Work closely with the sales and production teams to assess the technical and commercial merits of different plans, designs and manufacturing methods
• AI, Data Analysis and Automation
o Develop and implement AI-assisted tools for drawing review, manufacturing capability assessments, quotation support and technical documentation.
o Validate AI-generated outputs against engineering calculations, technical requirements and workshop results before operational use
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Working knowledge of Python, data analysis, APIs and automation
Experience:
• Strong understanding of steel manufacturing processes, including pressing, rolling, and cutting (plasma, laser).
• Knowledge of various types of steel, their properties, and applications.
Skills:
• Proven experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in a production environment.
• Proficiency in CAD software and finite element analysis.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct commercial analysis.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
• Effective communication and documentation skills.
• Experience with product development and testing.
• Familiarity with engineering specifications and technical analysis.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Developing web applications or integrating AI into existing business systems.
Work Environment:
This position requires working in both office and production environments. Occasional travel may be required for project-related activities.
