Put your heavy vehicle mechanical skills to use in a varied role with a supportive team and a diverse fleet.

Your new company
Hays is partnering with an established, family-owned Tasmanian business operating across civil works, quarry products, concrete and precast services. Based in the Huon Valley, the organisation supports projects throughout Southern Tasmania and is seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join its workshop team.
Your new role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will complete preventative and routine maintenance as well as repairs across a diverse fleet. This includes trucks, excavators, concrete agitators and trailers, along with other vehicles as required. You will take a practical, hands-on approach to keeping equipment safe, reliable and operational.

  • Complete scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out efficient, high-quality repairs.
  • Maintain trucks, heavy plant, concrete agitators, trailers and related equipment.
  • Support the effective use of workshop materials, equipment and resources.
  • Communicate openly with the Maintenance Manager about issues and practical solutions.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic records.
  • Follow site procedures and contribute to a safe, well-organised workplace.

  • A current driver's licence.
  • A recognised trade qualification in motor mechanics, diesel fitting or another relevant mechanical trade.
  • Relevant experience as a Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Fitter.
  • Strong mechanical, diagnostic and problem-solving capability.
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage priorities effectively.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and a sound understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements.
  • A professional approach, strong customer service focus and commitment to quality workmanship.

    What you'll get in return

Youll join a well-established operation with a diverse fleet and a wide range of maintenance work, offering plenty of variety in your day-to-day responsibilities. This is an opportunity to take ownership of your work, further develop your heavy mechanical skills, and play a key role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of essential plant and vehicle assets. Applications from experienced trade-qualified light vehicle mechanics looking to transition into the heavy vehicle sector will also be considered.
