Your new company
A progressive regional local government organisation committed to creating opportunities for all through sustainable growth, continuous improvement and strong community investment. With a focus on delivering quality services and protecting public health, Council is seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Health Officer to lead its Environmental Health function and drive positive outcomes across the region.

Your new role
Reporting to the Manager Resource Recovery and Environment, you will lead a small team of Environmental Health Officers and oversee the delivery of environmental and public health services across the region.This is a senior leadership position where you will provide technical expertise, strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure compliance with relevant legislation while promoting community health and environmental sustainability.Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring the Environmental Health team
  • Delivering environmental and public health programs and services
  • Managing complex environmental health investigations and case management matters
  • Interpreting and applying relevant environmental health legislation and local laws
  • Preparing high-quality reports, correspondence and stakeholder advice
  • Managing budgets and resources for the Environmental Health unit
  • Developing and implementing strategies relating to environmental health, licensing, regulation and local laws
  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, community members and regulatory bodies
  • Driving continuous improvement, innovation and best practice across service delivery

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong leadership capabilities together with extensive technical environmental health experience.You will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or an Environmental Health Australia (EHA) accredited qualification
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying environmental health legislation
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring and developing teams
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
  • Experience preparing professional reports, presentations and technical advice
  • The ability to manage complex and sensitive regulatory matters within a political environment
  • A current Queensland C Class Driver's Licence (or equivalent)

Experience within Local Government or State Government environments will be highly regarded.
