Payroll Audit Officer 
Duration: 6 month contract 
Location: Canberra, ACT 
Hourly rate: $60 - $80 per hour 
 
Our federal government client is seeking a highly detail-oriented Leave Audit Officer to support a large-scale workforce data reconciliation project. This role will focus on reviewing and validating employee leave balances, ensuring data accuracy, compliance, and integrity across payroll and HR systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll, finance, or workforce administration professional with strong analytical skills and advanced Excel capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed audits of annual leave, personal leave, long service leave, and other employee leave entitlements across a large workforce.
  • Review, reconcile, and validate leave data between payroll and HR information systems.
  • Investigate and identify discrepancies, anomalies, and inconsistencies in employee records.
  • Perform detailed data analysis and validation using Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and well-structured reports outlining findings, discrepancies, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Support the documentation and record-keeping process associated with data corrections and remediation activities.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and integrity of employee leave records.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A background in payroll, finance, human resources, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately with large volumes of data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to present findings in a clear and concise manner.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Check.
  • Demonstrated experience working with sensitive employee and payroll information while maintaining confidentiality and compliance standards.
