Heidelberg United Football Club Limited t/a Heidelberg United Alexander Football Club is one of Victoria's historic football clubs, with a proud history dating back to 1958. The club has played an important role in the development of football in Victoria and Australia and has a strong connection with the local community.

Heidelberg United Football Club is seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Sports Development Officer to support the continued growth and development of the club's football and sporting programs.

As a club with a long history of developing players and participating at the highest levels of Victorian football, Heidelberg United recognises the importance of having a dedicated professional responsible for supporting the development, coordination and improvement of its sporting programs.

The Sports Development Officer duties will include:

Football Strategy, Methodology & Curriculum

  • Develop, implement and continually review a whole-of-club football development strategy across the club's junior and youth programs.
  • Develop and implement a consistent football methodology, playing philosophy and age-appropriate player development curriculum.
  • Establish technical and tactical development objectives and standards appropriate to each phase of the player pathway.
  • Develop seasonal and periodised football development plans to support the progressive development of players.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the club's football development framework and implement improvements where required.

Player Development & Pathways

  • Oversee the technical and tactical development of players across MiniRoos, Boys VYPL, Girls VYPL and NPL U20 & U23 programs.
  • Establish individual and team development objectives appropriate to players' ages and stages of development.
  • Observe training sessions and matches and provide technical feedback to coaches and players to support ongoing development.
  • Establish processes for monitoring player development and progression through the club's pathway.
  • Support the development of players across technical, tactical, physical and psychosocial areas.
  • Establish clear development pathways from community and participation programs through to the club's competitive youth and senior development programs.

Coach Development & Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership and direction to coaches across Heidelberg United's junior and youth football programs.
  • Develop and implement a club-wide coach development framework aligned with the club's football methodology and player development curriculum.
  • Mentor coaches through training observation, feedback, workshops and individual development support.
  • Provide guidance regarding training methodology, session design, player development and age-appropriate coaching practices.
  • Coordinate internal coach education and professional development activities.
  • Support the identification and recruitment of appropriately qualified coaches for the club's development programs.

Talent Identification & Recruitment

  • Develop and oversee talent identification and player recruitment processes across the club's junior and youth programs.
  • Coordinate player trials, assessments and selection processes.
  • Identify talented players from Heidelberg United development programs, schools, community football and the wider football environment.
  • Support the progression of high-potential players into appropriate development environments within the club's pathway.
  • Maintain relationships with relevant football stakeholders to support player identification, recruitment and development opportunities.

Football Development, Participation & Community Programs

  • Develop, implement and manage accessible football development programs designed to improve football skills, increase participation and provide development opportunities for children and young people from the wider community.
  • Develop and oversee Heidelberg United's Saturday Programs.
  • Develop and coordinate School Holiday Football Programs and specialist football development programs.
  • Establish and manage football development programs in partnership with local schools and community organisations.
  • Develop opportunities for participants from school and community programs to progress into appropriate Heidelberg United development pathways.
  • Build relationships with schools, community football clubs and relevant sporting organisations to increase participation and strengthen the club's development network.
  • Monitor program participation, player development outcomes and program effectiveness, implementing improvements where required.

Mandatory Requirements:

AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).
