Kaizen Recruitment is partnering with Innovation Victoria to find an outstanding Investment Principal – Funds Management who will play a critical role in shaping and managing investment strategies that support Victoria's innovation, venture capital and economic growth agenda.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Funds Management, this role will manage Innovation Victoria's fund investment portfolio and support future investment initiatives that drive Victoria's innovation and venture ecosystem.
The successful candidate will oversee existing investments, including those established through LaunchVic and Invest Victoria, while contributing to investment strategy, stakeholder engagement and team leadership. This role requires strong commercial acumen and the ability to build relationships across the innovation and investment landscape.
Key responsibilities include:
Investment & Funds Management
- Manage Innovation Victoria's portfolio of fund investments
- Support investment strategy and asset allocation decisions
- Identify, assess and recommend new fund and co-investment opportunities
- Evaluate and select external fund managers
- Present investment recommendations to leadership and governance committees
Portfolio Management & Value Creation
- Monitor portfolio performance and investment compliance
- Support fund managers and portfolio companies to achieve growth objectives
- Drive value creation across capital, growth and commercialisation initiatives
- Optimise portfolio outcomes and long-term investment returns
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build relationships across the VC, startup and investment ecosystem
- Engage with fund managers, founders, co-investors and key stakeholders
- Provide investment insights and reporting to senior leadership
- Support portfolio governance, risk management and oversight
- Represent Innovation Victoria on boards, committees and advisory groups
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop a high-performing investment team
- Mentor and coach investment professionals
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and excellence
- Champion Innovation Victoria's values and strategic objectives
About You & Key Capabilities
This role would suit an experienced investment professional from venture capital, funds management, superannuation, private markets or a related investment environment who is passionate about innovation, startup investing and supporting the growth of emerging businesses.
- Investment origination, execution and portfolio management experience.
- Expertise in valuation, due diligence, financial modelling and performance analysis.
- Knowledge of venture capital, private markets, governance and risk.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing capabilities.
- Proven leadership experience developing high-performing teams.
- Exceptional communication, strategic thinking and commercial judgement.
