Data Consultant – Data Remediation & Master Data
Day rate contract
Initial 3 Months
Sydney | Hybrid – 2 Days Onsite
The Opportunity
· We’re partnering with a retail organisation on a high-priority data remediation initiative supporting several major digital and operational transformation programs.
· The organisation is investing heavily in AI-enabled forecasting and operational optimisation, but legacy data quality issues across its store technology ecosystem need to be addressed before the broader program can progress.
· We’re looking for a senior, hands-on Data Consultant who can come in, diagnose the current data landscape, identify root causes and establish a prioritised roadmap for remediation.
· This is not purely a technical SQL role. You’ll need to understand master data, retail operations and how data moves across interconnected systems
Responsibilities
· Lead a detailed assessment of data quality issues across legacy retail and operational systems.
· Perform data profiling, mapping and analysis to identify outdated, inconsistent or inaccurate records.
· Conduct root-cause analysis, identifying not just where data issues exist but why they are occurring.
· Produce a detailed diagnosis report and establish a prioritised remediation backlog.
· Trace data end-to-end across multiple upstream and downstream systems.
· Work hands-on within systems, including running test transactions and validating how data is created, transformed and consumed.
· Analyse complex Master Data structures, including product, recipe, inventory and operational data.
Skillset
· Strong experience in data remediation, data quality and Master Data Management.
· Advanced SQL skills, including complex joins and analysis across multiple tables and datasets.
· Experience investigating and resolving data quality issues across interconnected systems.
· Strong understanding of data profiling, mapping, validation and root-cause analysis.
· Experience within retail, FMCG, convenience, fuel or another high-volume multi-site environment.
· Understanding of how product, inventory and operational data flows through a retail technology ecosystem.
· A genuinely hands-on approach – you'll be comfortable getting into systems, interrogating data and tracing issues rather than simply managing the work.
· Strong stakeholder management skills across both technical and business teams.
