Commercial Manager / Senior Finance Business Partner

This newly created Commercial Manager role will provide the commercial insight, financial challenge and governance needed to support a broad portfolio of transformation programs, strategic projects and operational investments.

Reporting to the General Manager of Planning and Performance, you will work closely with executives, transformation leaders and business units to assess investment opportunities, strengthen business cases and ensure projects deliver their intended financial and operational outcomes.

This is broader than a traditional finance business partnering position. You will take ownership of the commercial framework surrounding major projects, from initial evaluation and approval through to performance tracking, benefits realisation and post-investment review. You will also lead and develop a direct report.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Partnering with executives, project owners and operational leaders to shape investment and transformation decisions
• Developing and critically reviewing business cases, financial models and investment proposals
• Evaluating assumptions, costs, risks, benefits, funding requirements and financial returns
• Building NPV, ROI, cash flow and capital investment models to support decision-making
• Providing clear commercial recommendations on project prioritisation and capital allocation
• Tracking project and portfolio performance against approved budgets, forecasts and targeted returns
• Challenging project owners where performance, costs or benefits move away from the original business case
• Leading financial planning, budgeting and forecasting across transformation, shared services and corporate functions
• Preparing portfolio reporting, performance dashboards and executive-level insights for the CFO, leadership team, steering committees and Board
• Establishing consistent financial governance across the full project lifecycle, from initial concept through to completion
• Improving the systems, controls, templates and reporting processes used to manage project financial information
• Building financial capability across project teams and strengthening accountability for commercial outcomes

You will be a commercially minded finance professional with strong experience supporting major projects, transformation programs or investment portfolios within a complex organisation.

You will bring:

• CA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification
• Significant commercial finance, FP&A or project finance experience
• A strong track record of assessing business cases and challenging investment assumptions
• Advanced financial modelling skills, including NPV, ROI, cash flow and scenario analysis
• The ability to translate operational and strategic drivers into clear financial outcomes
• Strong Excel capability and confidence working across ERP, planning and project management systems
• Experience developing management reporting, dashboards and executive presentations
• The confidence to constructively challenge senior stakeholders and influence commercial decisions
• Strong process improvement and problem-solving capability
• The ability to bring structure, consistency and financial discipline to a changing environment
• Previous leadership or team development experience
