Salary: 75,000 to 90,000 AUD plus superannuation

About Us

Canteena is a well-established café and restaurant located in Gisborne, Victoria, offering a relaxed and welcoming dining experience for local and visiting patrons. We specialise in gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner, using fresh and locally sourced ingredients to deliver high-quality dishes with a focus on flavour, presentation and customer satisfaction.

Our menu caters to a range of dining preferences and dietary requirements, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. Canteena also provides private dining and event services, including customised menus for functions and group bookings. We are now looking for a passionate and experienced Chef to join our team and help elevate our flavours and offerings even further.

Key Responsibilities:

·Plan, prepare and cook a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes, including Eggs Benedict, French Toast, Big Breakfast, Canteena Burger, Chicken Parma, Steak, Fish & Chips and seasonal specials.

·Prepare and cook food using appropriate methods, including grilling, baking, roasting, frying and sauteing.

·Prepare sauces, dressings, garnishes and other components required for menu dishes.

·Assist with menu planning, developing daily specials and preparing customised menus for private dining and functions.

·Monitor the quality, freshness, portion sizes and presentation of all dishes prepared.

·Estimate food requirements, monitor stock levels and assist with ordering food, ingredients and kitchen supplies.

·Prepare food according to dietary requirements, including vegetarian and gluten-free options.

·Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.

·Minimise food wastage through effective preparation, portion control, storage and stock rotation.

·Supervise and assist kitchen staff with food preparation, cooking techniques and adherence to recipes and quality standards.

·Coordinate food preparation and cooking during busy service periods to ensure meals are prepared and served on time.

·Store, preserve and handle food appropriately in accordance with food safety requirements.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Minimum qualification is a Diploma in Hospitality.
  2. Minimum of 3 year of experience as a Chef.
  3. Demonstrated experience in preparing and cooking a range of breakfast, lunch, dinner and function dishes.
  4. Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple orders simultaneously.
  5. Ability to maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion control.
  6. Strong communication and leadership skills.
  7. Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
