At Metcash, we’re passionate about supporting independent retailers and helping local communities thrive. We’re looking for a Buyer – Meat & Seafood to bring their product knowledge, supplier relationships and commercial smarts to our fresh food team.
In this Role, You Will:
- Buy smart: Work with suppliers to source quality meat and seafood, negotiate great deals and maximise sales and profitability.
- Drive promotions: Plan and execute promotional campaigns and seasonal events to keep customers coming back.
- Support our retailers: Partner with Retail Operations to deliver the right products, pricing and category initiatives for independent retailers.
- Keep things fresh: Manage stock, product ranges and purchasing quantities while minimising waste and improving availability.
- Know the market: Monitor competitor activity, understand customer needs and turn market insights into opportunities.
You’ll bring:
- Experience in buying, ideally within fresh food, meat, seafood or supermarket retail.
- Strong product knowledge and an understanding of supermarket retailing and supply chain operations.
- Commercial acumen, with the ability to negotiate, analyse sales and margins, and identify opportunities.
- Great communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to influence suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a hands-on approach to getting things done.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
