Position Title - Power BI Developer

About the role:

The Business Insights team is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to support the delivery of critical reporting and analytics initiatives across the organisation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting Power BI reporting solutions that provide timely, accurate, and actionable insights to business stakeholders and senior leadership.

This role will support the development and enhancement of strategic and operational dashboards, including executive and governance reporting and other high-profile business performance dashboards. The role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, analysts, data engineers, and project teams to deliver fit-for-purpose reporting solutions aligned with organisational priorities.

What the role will involve:

• Design and develop Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualisations.
• Develop Power BI Semantic Models (Datasets) to support enterprise reporting requirements.
• Create complex DAX measures, KPIs, calculations, and business logic.
• Design and implement scalable and efficient data models following industry best practices.
• Integrate data from enterprise platforms including Databricks, AWS datalake, Spreadsheets, and other business systems.
• Work directly with business stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document reporting requirements.
  • Support the development and enhancement of critical dashboards such as Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) Dashboard
• Conduct data analysis, validation, and reconciliation activities to ensure reporting accuracy and integrity.
• Optimise report performance and user experience.
• Support testing, deployment, and release activities across development, test, and production environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve reporting, data, and refresh issues.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, data mappings, business rules, and user guides.
• Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to Business Insights team members.
• Ensure compliance with organisational governance, security, and development standards.

Key skills and experience:

• Demonstrated experience developing enterprise-grade Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Strong experience building and maintaining Power BI Semantic Models.
• Advanced proficiency in:
  • Power BI
  • DAX
  • Power Query (M)
  • SQL
  • Data modelling
• Experience working with large and complex datasets.
• Strong understanding of dashboard design, data visualisation, and reporting best practices.
• Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into analytical solutions.
• Experience working with enterprise data platforms and modern data architectures.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience working with:
  • Databricks
  • Microsoft Fabric
  • AWS data lake environment such as (Redshift, Athena)
  • Cloud-based analytics platforms
• Experience implementing security and governance controls within Power BI.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and deployment frameworks for Power BI.
• Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies.
• Experience within utilities, government, or large enterprise environments.
• Microsoft Power BI certification(s).

Key Deliverables

They will be expected to:

• Develop and enhance strategic and operational Power BI dashboards.
• Deliver reporting solutions that support executive decision-making and governance reporting.
• Support the ongoing development of the Audit and Risk Committee Dashboard and other priority reporting initiatives.
• Build and maintain reusable semantic models and reporting assets.
• Improve reporting performance, usability, and data quality.
• Produce high-quality technical and user documentation.
• Support testing, deployment, and transition of solutions into business-as-usual support.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related discipline; or equivalent industry experience.
• Microsoft Power BI certifications highly regarded
